Oyo State govt pledges continuous support for security agencies

Olubadan laments rising insecurity in Nigeria


Oyo State Government has pledged continuous support to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in the state.

The state governor, Seyi Makinde, gave the assurance while receiving the new Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya, who was on a working visit to the state.

He said that his government would always go after criminals across the length and breadth of the state.

Makinde said the state would not engage in ethnic profiling of criminality.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, said Makinde expressed appreciation to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and the officers and men of the 2 Mechanised Division, Ibadan, for securing the lives and property of the people of the state.

Earlier, Yahaya said the visit was to appreciate the governor for improving the well-being of the Nigerian Army.

He promised that soldiers would continue to do their best in securing the state, while also pleading that the state government should extend the development projects to the Army Barracks.

RELATEDLY, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, yesterday, lamented rising insecurity across the country, particularly in Ibadanland, calling for urgent step to address it.

The monarch stated this in his palace while receiving the Chief of Army Staff who came to paid him courtesy visit,

Balogun of Ibadanland, Chief Owolabi Olakulehin, who spoke on behalf of the monarch, said the role of the Nigerian Army in maintaining peace and stability could not be over-emphasised.

He, however, charged Nigerian Army to stop insecurity so that people could sleep with their two eyes closed.

The CoAS said that the Nigerian Army would synergise with sister security agencies to tackle insecurity across the country.
