Nigeria like many other nations of Africa and the world at large has harboured a host of notorious criminals who have at one point or the other been on the list of wanted persons in the country by the security operatives for the anxiety they caused in the country.

- Lawrence Nomanyagbon Anini: Growing up as a child, the name Anini was always on the lips of the people as the most notorious criminal that troubled the people, both the security operatives and business owners. Whenever someone’ s name is likened to Anini, it depicts that the person also is skilled in criminal activities. Lawrence operated in the old Bendel State, now Edo and Delta state.
In 1983, it was reported that Anini and his gang members successfully robbed 12 banks in one day and killed 18 people in the process. They robbed banks and would go about throwing money at market women after the robbery to gain more popularity from the people.
Anini was arrested on 3rd December 1986 in Benin City. One of his legs was amputated which made him be confined to a wheelchair throughout his trial. He was sentenced to death by Justice Omo- Agege of Benin High Court and was executed on March 29, 1987.
- Derico Nwamama (Okwudili Ndigwe) Derico nwamama is a name that resounded in the ears of people that lived within Onitsha in Anambra state. People that lived in the commercial city of the state were the ones that experienced his mayhem the most although he operated in every region of the state.
Sources revealed that the dreaded armed robber allegedly murdered over 100 people which include about 25 police officers. He specialised in robbing buses and travellers with his gangs.
Bakassi Boys, the militant wing of Anambra state vigilante got hold of him in 2001. He was paraded around Onitsha and was finally beheaded in an open square at the popular Ochanja round about.
- Kayode Wiliams: Kayode was a much known armed robber who later got converted and became a Christian and also a bishop.
Kayode was reportedly a deadly robber who was alleged to have brutally murdered people without thinking twice. He confessed to having pound babies and made use of them for spiritual fortifications.
Kayode converted to Christianity while he was in jail for over 10 years. He is currently the presiding bishop of Christ vessels of Grace Church. He is also the director general of Prison Rehabilitation Mission International.
